RFQ specification builder

A quotation you can compare needs a specification, not a product name. Answer the questions below and the block builds itself as you go — purity as a numeric band, D50 with its tolerance and the method it is measured by, trace metals on the element basis, and how many production-lot COAs you expect with the quote.

Material and grade

Decides which questions follow. Particle size is asked only for the powder categories.

The band decides the manufacturing route, so it decides the price. Moving from 99.5% to 99.99% is a different process, not a 0.49% improvement.

Particle size and distribution

The Chinese W-grade, the JIS R6001 grit conventionally cross-referenced to it, and the basic-grain band. The D50 written into the specification is the one JIS R6001 states, because GB/T 2481.2 specifies band fractions rather than a median.

Measurement method

A particle size without a method named is not a result. The same sample can read 8 µm by sedimentation and 10 µm by laser diffraction, and sedimentation generally reads finer.

Two powders with the same D50 are different materials once the span is compared. A COA that reports D50 alone is a signal that the distribution is not being managed.

Trace metals

Supplier COAs mostly report Fe₂O₃ and buyer specifications mostly write Fe. Opens on the 0.05% the article works through — check it against what your process requires.

Include the period if it recurs — “2 t/month” quotes differently from “2 t”.

Order pattern

FOB is worth preferring on a first transaction: controlling the forwarder yourself is what makes lead time and damage visible.

The place named after the rule. Under FOB it is where the goods leave from; under CIF it is where they arrive.

A sample COA describes one sample. Production-lot certificates are what show the specification holds lot to lot.
